DL501 / 0B5 S tronic guide
VAGEN · Tampere and Ylöjärvi

DL501 / 0B5 is an Audi seven-speed S tronic. Jerking, slipping or only some gears working needs diagnosis. A symptom or fault code alone does not identify a part to replace.

Longitudinal dual-clutch transmission
DL501 is the family, 0B5 the Audi type and S tronic a commercial name. The seven-speed 0B5 has wet clutches: K1 serves odd gears, K2 even gears and reverse. Its ATF circuit for clutches and hydraulic control is separate from the mechanical transmission’s gear-oil circuit. Their fluid requirements and service procedures must be kept separate.
Audi versions and Macan
Certain A4/S4 B8, A5/S5, A6/S6 C7, A7/S7, RS4/RS5 and Q5 8R versions use 0B5. Engine, market and production date matter; quattro alone does not prove DL501. The related Macan 95B PDK application is treated separately. 0FD and Porsche A5B00–A5B04 identifiers are not Audi gearbox letter codes.
Adaptation is not a universal wear test
Adaptation reflects learned corrections influenced by tolerances, temperature, wear, hydraulics and measurements. Adaptation pressure is not automatically measured running clutch pressure. One online pressure threshold is not a universal condition test. Improvement after basic settings is useful evidence, but does not prove a mechanical or hydraulic fault has been repaired.
The full code identifies the situation
P17E1/9708 and P17E1/9473 must be distinguished; the latter can concern a cold-start problem in specific versions. For P174C/8026, the vehicle’s full fault text and wiring diagram must establish the affected valve and sub-transmission. Some 0B5 sensors are outside the mechatronics, so a sensor code does not automatically require replacement of the whole unit.

Diagnosis before repair
We need the car at our workshop for our own diagnostics. Earlier reports help us prepare, but the repair decision is based on our examination. We investigate the cause and assess whether a component can be repaired. A fault code alone does not determine which part needs replacing.
Include the registration number, mileage, symptoms and when they occur. Attach the complete fault report, previous estimate and repair history if available. Let us know whether the vehicle can be driven. You can contact us in Finnish, English or Swedish.
We discuss the findings, repair options and scope with you. You receive an estimate for approval before repair work begins. We normally use parts that we supply. AUNE repair terms apply.
Follow the vehicle’s warnings and owner’s manual. If drive is lost or the car behaves unpredictably, stop safely and arrange transport.
